Leverage Digital Technology as an Oral Engineer to Challenge New Stages in Dental Techniques

Dental technicians produce appliances such as dentures and restorations which are essential for dental treatment. Using sophisticated techniques, dental technicians improve and restore oral functions such as eating, chewing, tasting, and speaking, and support patients' quality of life. In recent years, many fields in science and technology, such as digital engineering, mechanical engineering, and material engineering, have been applied, and we have embarked on a new era of dental techniques.
At this stage of a major transition from dental techniques to oral engineering, we will develop human resources who learn comprehensively across the fields of science such as dentistry, science and engineering, and medicine and contribute to the development of dental care technologies.

Learning Path of Four Years

1styear

Students should acquire basic knowledge of medicine and dentistry as the foundation for learning specialized courses. In Oral Anatomy, you will learn the fundamentals of dentistry, including morphologies, structures, and roles of the stomatognathic region.

2ndyear

Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics focuses on prosthetic appliances and devices primarily designed to restore the function of missing teeth, while Full Denture Clinical Practice focuses on the structure and manufacturing of complete dentures.

3rdyear

Digitalized Dental Technology Practice focuses on new manufacturing techniques for oral appliances, such as 3D-CAD/CAM. In the Clinical Training of Oral Engineering at our university hospital, you will experience the flow of production of prosthetic devices in clinical settings and acquire practical capabilities as a dental technician.

4thyear

In Oral Engineering, you will learn basic knowledge and application of engineering, understand the relationship between dental techniques and engineering, and acquire the ability to lead the field of dental techniques in the future. We also offer courses to prepare you to gain adaptability to multidisciplinary collaboration and the super-aging society, such as Oral Engineering Home Visit Practice.

Two National Qualifications You Can Obtain at the Department of Oral Health Engineering

The national qualification of a dental technician and national qualification of a social worker can both be obtained.

Dental technician

A dental technician manufactures, repairs, and processes dental technical materials such as post crowns, dentures, and fillings, which are essential for dental care, using sophisticated specialized technologies.

Social worker

With expertise and specialized skills, a social worker provides advice, guidance, and support, by consulting about welfare of persons who have difficulty in performing daily activities.
