Eligibility Requirements

A person who is expected to graduate from a high school in March 2024 and is recommended by the high school principal or has graduated from high school in March 2023.

Application Process

The following application procedures must be completed within the specified period.
The application process will be completed following the verification of the application form upon arrival by post.

Print out exam admission card when coming for examination

The registration procedures will be completed with online registration, payment of examination fee, and arrival of application forms by post, On the day of deadline, an e-mail notifying the issue of the exam admission card will be sent. Access the “Application inquiry page,” print out the PDF date of the admission card, and be sure to bring it on examination day.

About Exam and Announcement of Results

Selection Method

To assess the three aspects of academic ability (“skill and knowledge,” “the abilities to think, decide, and express,” and “the attitude to learn through active collaboration with various people”) along with the diversity of the examinee, application forms including transcripts, basic academic test, essay, and interview will be evaluated and acceptance decided based on the total scores.

    Examinees who have taken the either one of the foreign language tests below and meet the criteria (registration is necessary during the application process) will be guaranteed the average score of the Foreign Language (English) Examination or the average score of the Foreign Language (English) Examination plus an additional 10 points.
    Concerning the option of taking/not taking the Foreign Language (English) Examination:
    Examinees who wish to apply scores for foreign language (English) test by a private institution may choose (registration is necessary during the application process) to either “take” or “not take” the Foreign Language (English) Examination for either Selection by School Recommendation or General Selection (Early phase/Late phase). When choosing to “take” the English examination, the higher score of either the Foreign Language (English) Examination or the conversion will be adopted.

At 15:00 of the day of notification of acceptance, notice of acceptance or rejection will be available by clicking the “Confirmation of the Examination Result” button within the “Application confirmation” page.
On the same day, a letter of acceptance, etc. will be sent to applicants who passed the examination by postal mail (it will arrive on or after the day following the date of notification of acceptance).

Note 1: We will not respond to any inquiries about acceptance or rejection by telephone, etc.
Note 2: We do not display results in our school premises.

Schooling for successful applicants

Schooling will be conducted in December and February after the enrollment procedures. The schooling will cover such topics as what is important for students to complete high school education and what kind of academic competence is required for learning at our university.
The outline of the meeting such as time and date will be notified by postal mail, together with the letter of acceptance.

Eligibility Requirements

An applicant must meet any of the following criteria:

  • A person who graduated or is expected to graduate from a high school (including completion of a latter course at secondary education school; the same applies hereinafter) by March 2024
  • A person who completed or is expected to complete the 12-year school education through a regular curriculum by March 2024
  • A person who is deemed to have the scholastic ability equivalent to or higher than high school graduates in accordance with the provisions of Article 150 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act (as specified in the following (1) to (5))
    (1) A person who completed the 12-year course of school education in a foreign country or expected to complete by March 31, 2024
    (2) A person who completed or is expected to complete the program at a Japanese school abroad certified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as equivalent to that of a high school in Japan, by March 31, 2024
    (3) A person who completed or is expected to complete an upper secondary course of a special training colleges designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (limited to the programs that require three or more years to complete and that satisfy criteria designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) after the date designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, or by March 31, 2024
    (4) A person who was designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
    (5) A person who is over 18 years old, and passed or expected to pass the Upper Secondary School Equivalency Examination (including the University Entrance Qualification Examination) by March 31, 2024

  • Online Interview 

    Single application enrollees of Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions (Early Phase/Late Phase) who choose online interview must note the following. (Only single application enrollees of Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions Online interviews are eligible for the online interview)

    1. (1) Exam location

      Enrollees must find a site for the interview (such as home or school) prior to the date of the exam. There must be no access by a third party to the site. Also, there must be a quiet environment to avoid any interference during the interview.

    2. (2) Exam procedure

      The web conference system Zoom will be used. The necessary information to establish online connection will be written on the exam admission card.

    3. (3) Necessary equipment

      A device with video conferencing functions (PC with camera, tablet, smartphone etc.) will be necessary.

      Make sure there is sufficient Internet access (such as data traffic volume) for the online interview.

      * As a precaution to access trouble during the interview, be sure to have an alternative communication method such as a smartphone or a fixed-line phone.

    4. (4) Prior testing of online connection

      An online connection test will be conducted before the previous day of the examination. This test is mandatory for all enrollees. The prior testing will take 15 minutes to confirm Internet connection status and visual and audio quality. Details will be sent to the registered e-mail address.

    5. (5) Connection trouble on examination day

      If the interview cannot be conducted due to connection problems on the day of the examination, another date will be set for the interview.

    6. (6) Cheating

      In the case of any dishonest practice during the online interview such as the presence of a third party in the room, the enrollee will be rejected.

Single application enrollees of Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions have the option of choosing online interview.

  • Plus 1 (Early phase/Late phase) 

    Plus 1 refers to the examination options of the Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions

    • In addition to the scores of the General Selection of Osaka Dental University, the highest score (2 subjects in the case of Mathematics) of the 6 subjects of the Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions (Foreign Language, Mathematics 1 and 2, Science 2, Japanese Language, Geography and History, Civics) will be added to the total score and used in the decision of acceptance.
      Past scores from the Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions or National Center Test for University Admissions may not be applied.

    A person who has applied for both the General Selection (Early phase/Late phase) and the Selection by the Common Test for University Admissions (Early phase/Late phase) can apply for Plus 1 (Early phase/Late phase).

Eligibility Requirements

An applicant must meet any of the following criteria.

  • A person who graduated or is expected to graduate from a two-year college (including two-year colleges of foreign countries).
  • A person who completed or is expected to complete the course of the foreign university (equivalent to a two-year college) located in Japan which is designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology by March 31, 2024.
  • A person who graduated or is expected to graduate from high school by March 31, 2024.
  • A person who completed or is expected to complete the special training college's postsecondary course which satisfies criteria designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology by March 31, 2024. This person also needs to be qualified to enter college or university in accordance with the provisions of Article 90 of the School Education Act.
  • A person who completed or is expected to complete an upper secondary school (including the upper division of a secondary education school and a school for special needs education etc.) which satisfies standards specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology by March 31, 2024.
  • A person who graduated or is expected to graduate from a college or a university requiring four or more years to graduate (including a foreign college or a university requiring three or more years to graduate) by March 31, 2024.

Selection Method

Selection of enrollees will be based on the recommendation letter, academic transcript, basic academic skill test, essay, and an interview of the applicant, as well as comprehensive evaluation of capabilities and aptitudes required for university education to become a dentist.

  1. We will not accept an application if documents are incomplete.
  2. We will send a notice of acceptance to the e-mail addressess written on the application form after accepting the application.

[2] Precautions on the day of examination

1) Entry into and seating in the examination room

  1. Examinees who contracted COVID-19 and have not healed yet are not allowed to take the examination to avoid infection to other examinees and invigilators.
  2. An alcohol disinfectant will be placed at the examination site. Disinfect your hands and fingers as appropriate.
  3. The test supervisor may instruct to temporarily remove the mask for verifying your identification with your photo, etc.
  4. Examinees should enter the room by 10 minutes before the start of the examination. Examinees who chose exemption from English examination should arrive with time to spare not to be late.
  5. Take a seat where your examination number is displayed, and place your admission card at a position that is clearly visible from the aisle.
  6. Examinees who are late 20 minutes or more after the start of the examination will not be allowed to take the examination.
  7. Be sure to bring the examination admission card. On the day of the examination, you need to always carry the examination admission card with you. If you lost or forgot to bring the examination admission card on the day of the examination, go to the Testing Division and receive a temporary admission card.


2) Handling of personal belongings
  1. In addition to the admission card, items allowed to be placed on the desk during the examination are: black lead pencils (No. 1 or 2; HB or B) or mechanical pencils with black leads (No. 1 or 2; HB or B), erasers, pencil sharpeners (excluding electric or large-size sharpeners and knives), watch or clock (excluding those with dictionary, calculator, computing functions, etc., devices which are difficult to identify their functions, those making ticking sounds, kitchen timers, and large clocks), eye glasses, handkerchief, tissue paper (out of a bag or box), and eye-drops. If you use or place other personal belongings, we may temporarily suspend your examination and hold them until the end of the examination.
  2. Do not use mobile phones, smartphones, wearable devices, electronic dictionaries, IC recorders, or other electronics or noisy devices. Before entering the examination room, be sure to unset the alarm, turn off the power, and keep it in your bag. If you hold any of these items during the examination (either holding in your hand or in a pocket of your clothe you wear) or place them on a desk without keeping them in your bag, it can be deemed as cheating.


3) Precautions at the time of examination
  1. Supervisors distribute examination papers 5 minutes prior to the start of examination. Do not touch them until instructed.
  2. Be sure to enter the examination number and name at the start of the examination.
  3. If you wish to leave the room during the examination for an inevitable reason, for example when you feel sick or need to use the bathroom, etc., raise your hand and follow the instructions of the supervisor.
  4. No relief measures will be taken if daily living noise, etc. (for example, sound of supervisors' footsteps or conversation required for them to fulfill their task, airplane, automobile, wind, rain, air conditioning, cough, sneezing, sniffling of other examinees, brief ringing of a cell phone, clock, and chimes of a surrounding building) occurs during the examination.


4) Additional information
  1. Parking is not available for cars or motorcycles at the examination site. Use public transportation.
  2. Keep quiet inside the examination site.
  3. Applicants are allowed to enter only designated areas.
  4. Lunch is to be brought and taken at designated seat.
  5. There is no waiting room for parents, etc. Please note in advance.

Exemption from Interview

When applying to take more than one examination for the School of Dentistry, the examinee will be exempt from taking interview exams after the first examination. The score from the first interview test will be applied. For further details see the chart below.

Refund of School Payment in Case of Termination of Enrollment

When declining enrollment after the completion of enrollment registration, submit “Notification of Termination of Enrollment” (designated form) by Friday, March 22, 2024 (deliveries postmarked with deadline will be accepted). Payment not including enrollment fee will be refunded by the end of March, 2024.
When declining enrollment between Saturday, March 23, 2024 to Sunday, March 31, 2024 due to unavoidable circumstance, first contact the Admission Center by phone and immediately submit “Notification of Termination of Enrollment” (designated form). Payment not including enrollment fee will be refunded by mid-April. Please note that the Admission Center is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays excluding Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31, 2024.
