Educational Goal

Basic knowledge of the normal structure and function is necessary to understand the nature of diseases. We aim at finding abnormalities and elucidating the nature of disease based on the knowledge. For this purpose, we obtain information for histopathological diagnosis, treatment, and prevention as well as effective information for the education of patients and students by using various methods, particularly molecular pathological methods to characterize details of pathologic lesions.

Research Contents

  • Development of materials that induce periodontal tissue regeneration
  • Development of preservative solutions for deciduous teeth and grafts
  • Relationship between alveolar bone changes and diseases
  • Association between periodontal stem cells and metabolic syndrome
  • Photodynamic therapy and aspiration pneumonia
  • Approach to modification of treatment based on basic dentistry
  • Effective education methods of pathology and oral pathology

Features of this major / Prospects following course completion

To enable researchers to discover and solve problems themselves, we may simply point an appropriate direction and propose minor corrections for the research.
Guidance is given so that researchers can solve their own questions and be independent.

In recent years, several graduate students were employed as faculty members in the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. Successful researchers completed the graduate school in three years. In addition, some were employed as a lecturer (part-time) of our graduate school, a postdoctoral fellow, or a research fellow at Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and therefore, those who are willing can continue research and receive support in this environment.
