Educational Goal

In recent years, the influence of indigenous microbiota on human health has attracted considerable attention. We nurture dental care professionals with researcher's mind, by bilaterally investigating influence of indigenous bacteria in the oral cavity on host immunity and changes in indigenous microbiota in the host environment, from the viewpoint of host-parasite relationship.

Research Contents

  1. Genomic analysis of oral microbiota
  2. Search for new materials for dietary supplements to improve oral environment
  3. Mechanistic analysis of inflammatory response using immune cells

Features of this major / Prospects following course completion

We can conduct oral microbiota genome analysis using the latest technology to decipher genes, as well as molecular biological analysis of various cells. Our professors at the graduate school carefully guide students by dividing research themes tailored to each individual's interest into smaller steps, for example hypothesis building, experimental verification, and discussion of results. We target to submit research papers to international journals with higher impact factors. After completion of the graduate school, students can continue research as a postdoctoral fellow or be referred to an overseas research institution. Or, they can dedicate themselves to research and education as a part-time lecturer in Bacteriology.
