Educational Goal

We do not believe that haphazard education provides an environment where students can learn efficiently. We provide a place and atmosphere where professors and students can actively exchange their ideas. Throughout our PhD course, the students will be able to practice a well-founded, clinically relevant, so-called "logical and interesting dentistry" for the patients with special needs based on "right knowledge" and "precise output”. Their achievements also will be expected to contribute to the improved QOL of the patients with special needs and their family as well.

Research Contents

  1. Study of oral function in persons with disabilities
  2. Research on dental treatment support for patients with dental phobias and abnormal strangulation reflex
  3. Research on mucosa! immune vaccines

Features of this major / Prospects following course completion

In Japan, over 10 million of people live with some form of special needs, and is still increasing due to population aging and the medical innovation. Throughout our PhD course, the students will be involved with the researches that contribute to the improved QOL of the patients with special needs and their family as well. The PhD students will have completed submitting their dissertation to the scientific journal with high reputation and impact. Our PhD course also allows the students to practice dentistry for patients with special needs under the supervision of multiple specialties including special care dentistry, prosthodontics, geriatric dentistry and sports dentistry, and apply to a certified dentist. We support their career path to be a first class researcher within its field, a specialized clinician among the primary health care providers, or a university faculty member.
