OSAKA DENTAL UNIVERSITY

The 2nd International Students Cafe was held at Makino Campus on November 12. Ten international students (nine from China, one from Korea) of the Department of Oral Health Engineering assembled for this cafe. This cafe was organized by the Students Service Subcommittee of the Faculty of Health Sciences to understand the students' concerns and needs by talking freely with faculty members. The cafe opened at 5p.m. after classes.

The participants exchanged comments over refreshments such as sandwiches, rice balls, and fried chicken. A 4th year student commented, “I feel dizzy on the train” as the day for the National Examination for Dental Technicians draws near, and also said that she has not finished her assignment yet. She looked like she was feeling pressure, but she gave a look of relief after sharing her stories with everyone. Later, the conversation switched to familiar topics such as origins of their names, words, and foods. It was interesting to discover the differences in cultures even though close to each other geographically.

In the middle of the event, seven 4th year Japanese students of the Department of Oral Health Sciences joined turning the cafe into a hub for international cultural exchange. Being in different departments and years, the students were unacquainted. However, they opened up to each other soon. They exchanged information on trends of each country enthusiastically in Chinese, Koreans and English.
