OSAKA DENTAL UNIVERSITY

The 3rd Forum for International Students (FIS) was held at the auditorium of Kuzuha Campus on July 23. FIS is one of the features of the International Exchange Program. Held every year from 2017 (in English only), the forum promotes exchange among international students. The chairperson of this event was Chairman and President Takayoshi Kawazoe, and the vice-chairperson was Prof. Matsumoto, who is the director of the International Academic Exchange Division. The planning and management of the forum was conducted by the division. International students from China and undergraduate students from our university worked as volunteer staff for this event.
This year, twenty-five students and seven faculty from sister schools (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Southern Medical University, Sichuan University, Peking University, Taipei Medical University, Shanxi Medical University and Kunming Medical University), three students and a faculty from Zunyi Medical University, and a student from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine participated in the FIS. From Osaka Dental University, 530 people gathered in the auditorium (freshman and sophomore of the School of Dentistry, undergraduate students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, students of the Graduate School of Dentistry, and faculty members).

The program started at 1:00 p.m., and two freshman of the School of Dentistry hosted this event. In the opening remarks, Chairman and President Takayoshi Kawazoe thanked the eight partner universities for their cooperation. He continued, "I wish for everyone to exchange opinions, share knowledge, and learn about other cultures. I encourage you to take this opportunity to expand your career choices for the future."
In the following program, fifteen students, including ODU graduate school students from China (ZHAO Jianxin, HAN Xiaoyu, and YIN Derong), made 10 minute presentations about their research and university life. Afterward, one of the presenters commented, "My presentation was better in practice, since there were no people in front of me." Still, it was impressive that all participants boldly made presentations as representatives of their university. At the end, Chairman and President Takayoshi Kawazoe presented certificates to each speaker.

The following are some of the participants impressions of FIS: "Students from abroad spoke English fluently." "Technical terms were difficult to understand since we are freshman." "Senior students presented very confidently." "Hearing the presentations of students from overseas and students with experience studying abroad, I thought that I also want to study abroad." "I found a university I want to visit for overseas training." Much has been learned in this event.
