About the clinic
Dry mouth is dryness in the mouth due to decrease in saliva production caused by various reasons. When saliva volume is reduced, bacteria are likely to proliferate in the mouth, which may cause halitosis (bad breath). You may feel dryness or thirst even if the saliva volume does not decrease, which is also regarded as dry mouth.
It is less common in young people but common in people aged 50 years or older. It is estimated that there are a few million to several tens of million people in Japan who feel dryness in the mouth. Also, dry mouth could be sometimes caused by systemic medical diseases, and appropriate diagnosis is required.
