Message

Oral Diagnosis and Interdisciplinary Dentistry was established in 2019 by combining three departments located on the 2nd floor of the university hospital. We see first visit patients at the entrance of the hospital and determine the department that responds to their situation. Also, clinical residents and experienced trainer dentists cooperate together and provide holistic and comprehensive general dental care taking the whole oral cavity as a unit. We also train young dentists. We would appreciate your cooperation again in producing many excellent dentists.

Characteristics of dental care

1. Oral diagnosis

We select a department appropriate for the patients' condition who visit us for the first time. First, we conduct a medical interview to confirm chief complaints, wishes, etc., and determine the department after examination and tests. Since we are an educational hospital, we may ask the patients whether they can cooperate with clinical training of students.

2. Interdisciplinary dentistry

We mainly implement clinical training for dentists. Trainee dentists provide general dental care with experienced trainer dentists. The same attending dentist is responsible for medical examination and diagnosis at the first visit, medical care, follow-up, and regular dental checkups in a consistent manner, aiming at holistic and comprehensive general dental care.

Trainer dentists have clinical experience of more than 15 years, and many of them have acquired certification as a trainer or dentist certified by academic societies. For difficult cases and cases for which advanced technique is required, the trainer dentists directly provide medical care. They cooperate with each other depending on the cases and sometimes provide medical care in cooperation with specialized clinical departments. Also, we provide dental care for medically compromised patients and elderly patients in cooperation with medical institutions of their primary physicians.

In our department, we are committed to providing safe and high-quality dental care under the supervision of experienced trainer dentists. We ask for the cooperation of as many patients as possible in order to produce many excellent dentists.

3. Perioperative oral care

A perioperative period is a series of periods to undergo surgery. When general anesthesia is performed, a tracheal tube is inserted through the mouth. At that time, bacteria in the mouth sometimes enter the lungs and cause pneumonia postoperatively or wobbly teeth sometimes come out. In addition to surgery, it has been reported that stomatitis often occurs as a side effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Also, dental procedures such as tooth extraction are sometimes limited for a certain period after these therapies.

In recent years, it is considered important to conduct oral care including perioperative period and before and after chemotherapy and radiotherapy in order to prevent these complications. We provide perioperative oral care as a department that can provide comprehensive dental care. We provide not only preoperative oral care but also emergency procedures before surgery such as treatment of dental caries, fixation of wobbling teeth, and tooth extraction as well as postoperative oral management with dental hygienists of our department.
